How open interest is calculated and it's implication on a stock price?

Praveen: Lets say two parties A and B are there..A is initiating a short on SBIN and B is buying it. then Open interest becomes 1. now C comes and then  buys from B even then OI is 1 since one contract is always open. let say A buys it back from C then OI becomes zero.

It gives you an idea how much interest does people have. How much open contracts are present in the market.

Abbas Merchant: If increased OI and price up positive...if price down negative

Praveen: Price is increase and you see very very high OI, then you can consider reversal coming soon.

Jaya Prakash Reddy Chilla: INCREASE in OI with INCREASE in PRICE indicates price may continue in UPTREND. BUT change in OI should be significant i.e, more than 10 lakhs (it depends on script/index)
Jaya Prakash Reddy Chilla: OI & PRICE CHANGE INTERPRETATION:

1)Increase in Price ->->-> Increase in Open Interest->->-> Indication of new money coming and indicates further continuance of uptrend

2)Increase in Price->->-> Decrease in Open Interest->->-> Increase in price is due to short covering of positions

3) Decrease in Price=>->-> Increase in Open Interest->->-> Decrease in price is due to newly build short positions and further weakness is predicted

4) Decrease in Price->->-> Decrease in Open Interest->->-> Traders unwinding their long positions by selling existing contracts

While first and third scenarios of interpretation of open interest charts indicate direction of future market trend (Bullish in first case and Bearish in third Case), other scenarios does not indicate a clear trend. We can wait for clarity in open interest data or use other indicators to initiate positions

Just remember following things ---->>>>>>

1. Increase in  Price and increase in OI means new money coming and indicates further continuance of uptrend

2. Decrease in Price and increase in OI means newly build short positions and further weakness is predicted

3. Increase in Price and decrease in OI means Increase in price is due to short covering of positions

4. Decrease in price and decrease in unwinding their long positions by selling means unwinding their long positions by selling🙏
